Boiler overhaul

Among other work, a total of 8 economiser banks were replaced on two boiler lines, together with all drain pipework and some membrane panels or individual tubes in the membrane walls. The project involved more than 1,200 butt welds, including connection welds directly on the wall header in a confined space, and work with 5 different material groups, while meeting high requirements for quality, safety and deadlines.

During execution the scope of work grew by roughly 35 % compared with what was originally agreed, and all the additional work was completed within the same time frame. The increased scope called for precise organisation and coordination of all activities so that the planned overhaul schedule could be kept.
